Now that free agency has begun, I figured it was only right to talk about a few free agents that I think the Boston Celtics should target. The Celtics will be limited with the amount of money they have to work with, but there will still be a handful of cheap players they can add to the team that will make an impact right away.
One player that the Celtics should take a look at to fill out their bench is Ersan Ilyasova. After Milwaukee’s sign and trade with Sacramento fell through, the Bucks decided to waive Ilyasova and his $7M non-guaranteed contract.
This leaves the Celtics with another player to target in free agency that can add more shooting to the team. A career 36% three-point shooter, Ilyasova can spread the floor for Boston’s bench. He played less than 16 minutes a game last season, but his time on the court would probably be less if he were to come to Boston.
Last season, Ilyasova averaged just under seven points, five rebounds, and an assist a game. He isn’t meant to light up the stat sheet, but he will make the most out of his limited minutes. He won’t be a game-changer for Boston, but Ilyasova bulks up the bench and gives the Celtics another shooter.
With the limited amount of money Boston has to spend, they might have to look at somebody like Ersan Ilyasova to fill out the roster. He isn’t the sexiest name available, but he’d bring value to the team.
