Enes Kanter Believes the Celtics Can “Shock the World”

Enes Kanter didn’t come to Boston to chase money. If money were important, he could’ve signed anywhere else. Enes Kanter signed with the Boston Celtics to be in a winning situation and to compete for championships. If he didn’t think the Celtics were good enough to win, he wouldn’t be here.

In a recent interview with HoopsHype, Enes Kanter talked a lot about why he decided to sign with the Celtics and how good he thinks they can be next year. He’s always heard people saying he should sign with Boston, but the timing was never right. After the Celtics lost Al Horford and signed Kemba Walker, things changed.

He’s [Kemba] the type of point guard and type of leader who makes everybody around him much better. That’s what makes him really special. Of course, he’s an amazing player. But off the court, the leadership he brings to the team and the relationships he develops with all of the other players is very important. He was definitely one of the biggest reasons why I chose Boston. I really want to play with Kemba.

Along with Kemba, he had high praise for teammates Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Kanter believes both can become All-Stars for the first time this season.

He goes on to praise Brad Stevens and talks about how he believes this Celtics’ team will be better than last years. He has high confidence in this team and believes they can compete with any team in the league.

The reason I went [to Boston] is for a championship. I feel like the team is really young and willing to learn and we have an amazing group of guys. I feel like we can beat any team on any floor. All we have to do is just be good friends and stay together.

And when he says any team, he means any team.

People are just so focused on the Clippers and Lakers, like you said, and sometimes Milwaukee and Philly. But I definitely think we can shock the world. I already got a chance to work out with some of the guys, and I think it’s going be a very exciting season.

I don’t know about you, but Enes Kanter’s comments got me fired up. He’s gotten to work with his new teammates and is trying to build strong relationships with them already. He saw how bad last season was for the team and wants to make sure there are no repeats. Like Enes said, the Celtics have the opportunity to make this season special and can truly ‘shock the world.’
