Celtics Executive Believes Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum Are A Younger Version of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George

After seeing how this offseason turned out and where the roster is now, I think it’s safe to say that the Celtics really covet both Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. The Celtics have been involved in plenty of trade rumors since drafting both these players, and have passed up on trading them for big-named players. There’s a reason why they kept onto the Jays.

Danny Ainge and the Celtics see the potential in Jaylen and Jayson. When both of these guys are on the same page and they have nobody holding them back, they are one of the best young duos in the NBA. Seriously, remember the Celtics’ run in 2018 when Kyrie got hurt before the playoffs? They were so good together, and many people proclaimed them as the best young duo in the league.

Unfortunately, last year happened, and people’s perceptions of the Jays changed. Even though neither player truly had the year they or the team expected last season, the Celtics weren’t going to ship them away to get better players. In fact, a Celtics executive believes they can be the younger versions of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

“Everyone loves Kawhi and PG as a wing duo,” said the Celtics executive. “We think we have our own version growing right here in Boston. It’s gonna take a couple more years, but those guys are stars. And neither has an ego. They just want to play and win.”

There have been multiple teams that have reached out looking to acquire either Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum, only to be shot down almost immediately.

“That’s the guy we wanted to steal,” an opposing executive talking about Jaylen Brown. “Our thought was ‘They have Tatum and Hayward and drafted another wing, maybe they are out on Brown’ and boy were we wrong. The conversation got about as far as the ‘Jay’ sound out of my mouth and they said ‘Neither Jayson or Jaylen are on the table for you’. So, yeah. They love that kid.”

There’s still a lot of room to grow for both Jaylen and Jayson, but putting them in the same conversation as Kawhi Leonard and Paul George shows how much confidence they have in them. They still have a long way to go, but if they continue to develop and reach their full potentials, the sky is the limit.

It’s no surprise the Celtics want to hold onto Jayson and Jaylen. They haven’t had a full opportunity to play together without any restrictions. They had that playoff run I mentioned earlier, but that was only for a short amount of time. The Celtics want to see what a full year of Jaylen and Jayson playing without any restrictions will be like. Both players just want to win, and they will work their asses off to make sure that happens.

With the era of dynamic duos in the NBA seemingly underway, it’ll be fun to watch Jaylen and Jayson turn into one of the best duos in the league.
