The Boston Celtics are back on the market after they waived Guerschon Yabusele. By waiving Yabu, the Celtics opened up another roster spot, where they can add another player to a minimum contract. The Celtics have a few options left on the table, but it depends where they are looking. If the Celtics are looking to add one more guard who can help with scoring off the bench, Jamal Crawford may be their guy.
If you don’t know who Jamal Crawford is, I’ll catch you up. Jamal Crawford has been playing in the NBA for almost 20 years. During his time in the NBA, he’s proven himself to be one of the best scorers in the league, one of the best sixth men of all time, and an all-around great guy to have on your team. With his veteran experience, he would be a great fit in any locker room.
Jamal Crawford wouldn’t come in and drop 15 points a night. As great as that sounds, he is 39. I’m not even sure how much playing time he’d actually get because of the emergence of Carsen Edwards and because of all the depth they have at the guard position.
I’m sure Brad Stevens would find a way to give some playing time to Crawford, especially if the team is in dire need of scoring. Crawford did break the record for becoming the oldest player in NBA History to drop 50+ points in a game when he dropped 51 points in the last game of the regular season, so this guy can come in whenever and just light it up.
If the Celtics were to sign a player like Crawford, it would be more for his leadership than what he can provide on the court. If we needed Crawford to step in and do his thing, that’s always an option, but I believe he’d be an end-of-the-bench guy that suits up when needed to. Having too much bench scoring is never a bad thing, though, so it would be nice to see Crawford get a handful of minutes here and there and allow him to do what he does best… score.
I’m not too sure what Danny Ainge has in mind with the final roster spot. Of course, everybody wants Tacko Fall on the team (including myself), but Danny could be looking to add another veteran big or scorer off the bench. If the Celtics want another veteran scorer that would have a massive presence in the locker room, they better get on the phone with Crawford right this second.
