The Boston Celtics are back on the market after they waived Guerschon Yabusele. By waiving Yabu, the Celtics opened up another roster spot, where they can add another player to a minimum contract. The Celtics have a few options left on the table, but it depends where they are looking. If the Celtics are looking for one more high-energy big who can help our rebounding problems and provide a spark off the bench, Kenneth Faried is their guy.
Kenneth Faried has played for a few different teams over the past few seasons, but Faried is looking for another chance to prove he can go up against the best of the best. He’s more known for his time in Denver, where he played seven seasons and averaged 11.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. After bouncing from Brooklyn to Houston, he was finally starting to show how good he actually is and made us all wonder why no team gave him a real opportunity.
While playing 25 games in Houston, Faried found himself changing his game up. Faried is known for being a monster on the boards and providing energy for his team, but now he found himself putting up three-pointers for the Rockets. Before coming to Houston, Faried was a 12% career three-point shooter. During his time in Houston, he was shooting more threes than he ever had in his career and shot 35% from three. On top of all that, he was still putting up 13 and 8.
Kenneth Faried’s last opportunity in Houston showed that he can play, but just needs the chance to. Boston can give him this opportunity to play valuable minutes off the bench. Even if it’s just a few minutes, Faried can come in and make an impact in the minutes that he plays. I would personally play him over Daniel Theis in this case. If Faried has proven that he has a decent three-point shot in his arsenal, on top of what else he already brings to the table, it would be a steal to sign Faried to a contract.
I’m very happy the Celtics waived Yabu because now we can use his roster spot for a player who can actually contribute to the team. Kenneth Faried can play Yabu’s position, but be able to come in and help the team when needed.
If the Celtics are looking to add one more big man to help out the ones that we’ve signed already, Danny Ainge should look no further. Kenneth Faried will be able to fill the position and will do all that the team asks him to do. It could be a match made in Heaven.
