DeMarcus Cousins signing with the Golden State Warriors broke the NBA, as if it wasn’t broken already. First thoughts are that basketball is ruined, like, for good this time. The Golden State Warriors now have five All-Stars in their starting lineup, three players who could easily be MVP candidates, two of the best shooters of all time, and a defensive player of the year award winner.
The rich just got richer. And when I mean richer, I mean they basically just doubled their money. DeMarcus Cousins is hands down the best center in the NBA. He may have his attitude and locker room problems, but on the court, he’s one of the most dominant players we’ve seen in a while. He is more than capable of putting up a comfortable 25 and 10. Put that next to KD and Steph? My head is spinning just thinking of this.
Anthony Davis will not survive in the West. The Lakers became an instant contender when LeBron signed there. The Thunder and Rockets re-signed their star players. The Pelicans have lost Rajon Rondo and DeMarcus Cousins on the same day. Granted they did sign Julius Randle, but he’s nowhere near the same level as DeMarcus Cousins. Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday, and Nikola Mirotic were left behind.
I think it’s clear that the two teams right behind Golden State, or at least were just right behind Golden State, are Houston and Boston. Signing DeMarcus Cousins helped put Golden State more out of reach for these teams. I think there’s one way to bring peace back to the NBA. It’s time for Danny Ainge to pull the trigger on an Anthony Davis trade.
I’m not going to get into detail about who I think should be packaged in a trade, I am just stating that the Celtics may need Anthony Davis to get on the same level as the Warriors. If there was ever a time to make a blockbuster trade, I think now’s the time. The NBA is out of order right now with this news about Cousins, but Danny Ainge has the tools to make everything right again.
This is like the KD signing all over again. I’m not going to sit here and cry about the Warriors getting much, much better for no reason. If DeMarcus Cousins wants to be a sellout and chase rings for basically no money, go right ahead. The rest of the league just needs to catch right back up with the Warriors.
