The USA Men’s Basketball Team has just completed the three-peat, winning three Olympic gold medals in a row. This isn’t just a three-peat for team USA, but for Carmelo Anthony as well, as he wins his third straight gold medal and fourth medal overall.
In an interview with The Vertical, Carmelo says,
“I wouldn’t trade, hopefully my three gold medals, in for nothing,” Anthony told The Vertical. “I hope I’m never put in that position. That’s a tough position. But I always say, ‘Winning is winning is winning.’ No matter what level you win on. Hopefully, I do get an NBA ring, but that’s two things. … I wouldn’t try to compare or force myself to make that comparison.”
After playing in four Olympics for the US, Carmelo was very emotional after winning his third gold medal.
Carmelo also announced after the victory that this Olympics would be his last, and what a way to go out. He retires from Olympic Basketball as the only player to win three medals. Along the way, he also became the highest scorer in USA Men’s Basketball history. Thank you Melo.
