Nerlens Noel Coming Home?

BREAKING NEWS: THE BOSTON CELTICS MAY BE LOOKING TO MAKE A TRADE. This headline is the farthest thing from breaking news, but news nonetheless. Nerlens Noel could be looking to being traded, and Boston could be a potential landing spot.

Throughout the summer and even going back to the trade deadline, Boston has been interested in the Philadelphia 76ers’ big men Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel. When reports came out saying Boston was looking to trade with Philly, most figured it was for Jahlil Okafor, the offensive-minded center coming off an impressive rookie campaign. As time went on it seemed Boston was more interested in Nerlens Noel, the defensive-minded center, as well.

Nerlens Noel put out a tweet earlier today expressing his love for his hometown of Boston.

Everybody can tweet about how they love their hometown! There should be no reason to start trade rumors just because of that one tweet. But he would then go on to change his profile picture from him in a Sixers uniform to a black photo.

Take it for what it is. It could be and probably means nothing, but why not speculate a bit? That’s what analysts and journalists are supposed to do.

If Nerlens Noel gets traded to Boston, the 76ers probably wouldn’t want a big man in return since they’ve got plenty of those already. They’d be looking to take back one of Boston’s many guards and maybe a draft pick. Danny Ainge loves his draft picks so it’ll be tough prying one away from him. A player like Terry Rozier, who was impressive during summer league, or players like Marcus Smart or Avery Bradley, who are both elite defenders, could be on the 76ers’ radar if trade talks go on.

These rumors are nothing to get your hopes up for; Boston has been in trade talks all summer, and nothing spectacular has happened, yet. As the season gets closer and closer, a trade may go down, and this one may be it.
